Between a Rock and a Hard Place – Ray Cavill

blogray

This collection of intimate containers and vessels are made from fine limoge porcelain to Cavill’s own rocky road clay mix. The pieces display the broad range of effects possible in the woodfire process, from the lightest flashing to heavy ash encrustation. Cavill employs all the techniques of forming and firing clay as well as adding strands of ephemeral performance and alternative materials to his practice. He enjoys the physicality, the complexity and the unique results of the woodfiring process and prefers to work in resilient forms that can carry the subtlety and drama of the elusive surfaces he is pursuing. Exhibition dates 28 August until 11 October 2014.
